District Superintendent

Mark Gibbons
Mark Gibbons is a native of Ashland, Kentucky, where he grew up in First United Methodist Church and cut his spiritual teeth under the preaching and pastoring of Bishop Ed Tullis, Dr. Ralph Wesley, and Dr. Harold Dorsey, and the influence and mentoring of a host of lay volunteer Sunday School teachers and youth counsellors.  He is a 1974 graduate of Ashland's Paul G. Blazer High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1978 and a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in 1981.  He has served as a pastor in the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church in Lexington, Walton, Lawrenceburg, and Shelbyville.  He is married to Cheryl Smith Gibbons who is an elementary music teacher.  They are the proud parents of two daughters: Amanda (Ashley) and Meghan (Richard) and grandparents of five grandchildren: Sierra, Brysen, Aspen, Max, and Nola.

Mark is passionate about individuals discovering and answering their call to be disciples of Jesus Christ in the Wesleyan tradition of integrating head, heart, and hand, and in helping local churches (especially small membership churches) to be fruitful by rediscovering their primary mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
